Why It Matters

Choosing a CA Firm Is a Trust Decision

Ask ten business owners in Vadodara how they found their chartered accountant and nine will give the same answer: somebody recommended them. That isn't laziness. You are handing over your books, your bank statements and an honest picture of your cash flow. Nobody hands that to a search result they clicked at 11 pm.

But recommendations run out. New businesses don't have a network yet. People shift cities. Companies outgrow the accountant who filed their first return. So the search starts anyway — CA firm in Vadodara, chartered accountant near me — and it returns a wall of listings that all say the same four things.

This page is our attempt to be useful in that moment. Some of it makes the case for us. Some of it will help you choose someone else. Both are fine.

The Founder

Who Is CA Chiranjit Patel?

CA Chiranjit Patel is the founder of C M Patel & Company, a chartered accountancy firm on Jetalpur Road, Vadodara. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Membership No. 622379, and qualified in 2023.

He is a Vadodara native — raised here, educated here, practising here. He holds a B.Com and an M.Com in Accounting, and completed his articleship with Sheetal Samariya and Associates, working across audit, VAT, accounting and finance for clients spanning manufacturing, trading and services.

His own practice today concentrates on income tax, GST, FEMA and cross-border compliance, ROC and corporate law, and audit and assurance.

“I was doing this work before I had the letters after my name, and that teaches you something the syllabus doesn't. Most business owners aren't careless. Nobody has ever sat down and explained their own numbers back to them. My job is to say it plainly, and early enough for it to still matter.”

How It Started

From Dexter Consultancy to C M Patel & Company

The practice did not begin with a signboard.

In 2018, several years before he qualified, Chiranjit started taking on accounting and compliance work under the name Dexter Consultancy. It was the unglamorous end of the profession — bookkeeping, return filing, and reconstructing records that had been kept in a notebook — and it ran alongside his studies and articleship.

That order matters more than it might sound. By the time he cleared CA Final in 2023 and established C M Patel & Company as a full chartered accountancy practice, he had already spent five years handling real clients, real deadlines and real consequences. Most chartered accountants get that exposure after they qualify. He had it before.

Dexter Consultancy begins. Bookkeeping, returns and compliance work for local businesses, run alongside CA studies and articleship.

2023

Clears CA Final. C M Patel & Company is established as a full chartered accountancy practice, ICAI Membership 622379.

Off the Books

The Badminton Court and the Deadline Calendar

Most CA profiles stop at the qualification. This one shouldn't, because a fair part of Chiranjit's record was set on a badminton court.

He represented his university at the national level three times and was selected for the All India Inter-University tournament in 2016–17 — while working through the CA curriculum at the same time. He still competes, and continues to win at district and state level.

It is not an unrelated fact. Competitive badminton is a sport of preparation and recovery. You train for months for matches decided in seconds, and you learn to stay level when a point goes against you. Anyone who has sat through a GST scrutiny hearing, or the last week of September before a tax audit deadline, will recognise the transferable part.

Three National Appearances

Represented his university at national level three times, and was selected for the All India Inter-University tournament in 2016–17.

Still Competing

Continues to win at district and state level. Away from the court: riding, trekking, and time near rivers and mountains — the standard recovery protocol after an Indian tax season.

The Qualification

What Those Two Letters Actually Cost

People use CA, accountant, auditor and tax consultant as if they were interchangeable. They are not, and the difference is worth understanding before you hire anyone.

Becoming a chartered accountant in India means clearing a three-stage examination run by ICAI, with mandatory practical training in the middle.

Foundation

The entry level, taken after Class 12.

Intermediate

Two groups, six papers, and the stage where most candidates stall.

Articleship

Practical training under a practising CA. Under ICAI's New Scheme effective 1 July 2023, this runs two years, reduced from three.

Self-Paced Modules

Plus advanced ICITSS training, completed alongside the examination stages.

Final

Two groups, with pass rates that routinely sit in the low double digits.

The articleship is the part outsiders underestimate. For those years you are inside real audits, real assessments and real notices, on real deadlines, for a stipend. It is where a CA learns exactly what a badly kept set of books looks like at 2 am on the 30th of September — and why it is cheaper to fix that in April.

The practical point for you: anyone can print "tax consultant" on a visiting card. Only an ICAI member holding a Certificate of Practice can sign an audit report, issue a Form 15CB, or represent you as a chartered accountant. When you search for a chartered accountant in Vadodara, that is the first filter.

The Market

Why Practise in Vadodara?

Vadodara is an unusual place to run a practice, and that is precisely the appeal.

Within roughly 40 kilometres you have petrochemicals and heavy engineering, the manufacturing belts at Makarpura GIDC, Nandesari, Por-Ramangamdi, Savli and Halol, decades-old family trading houses around Mandvi and the old city, a large salaried and professional base through Alkapuri, Akota, Gotri, Fatehgunj and Vasna, and a services and IT layer that has grown quickly. Add one of Gujarat's larger NRI populations, with property and income still held in India.

Each of those needs something different from a chartered accountant. A CA firm in Vadodara that treats all four the same is running a filing service, not an advisory practice. That distinction is the whole thinking behind how this one is built.

Manufacturers

A Halol auto-component supplier lives and dies by input tax credit reconciliation and e-invoicing discipline.

Family Trading Houses

A Mandvi trading family needs succession and partnership restructuring handled without a fight at the dinner table.

Startups & Services

A software company off Old Padra Road needs a clean cap table and a view on Section 80-IAC long before it needs a statutory auditor.

NRIs

An NRI selling a flat in Vadodara needs FEMA repatriation and a Section 197 certificate handled correctly the first time. The second time is expensive.

Before You Sign

How to Choose a Chartered Accountant in Vadodara

Whether or not you talk to us, run any firm you are considering through this list.

1

Verify the membership, not the signboard

ICAI runs a public member and firm search. Look up the membership number before your first meeting. It takes two minutes and rules out a surprising number of people. Ours is 622379 — check it.

2

Ask who actually does your work

In many firms you meet a partner once and never speak to them again. Ask directly: who prepares my returns, who reviews them, and who do I call on the 19th of the month?

3

Check sector fit

A CA whose year is spent on manufacturing clients thinks in ITC, job work and e-way bills. One who works with professionals thinks in 44ADA and advance tax. Ask what their client base actually looks like.

4

Judge them by the questions they ask you

A good first meeting is mostly them asking. If nobody asks about your bank limits, your related-party transactions, or how you actually take money out of the business, you are being sold a package rather than given advice.

5

Get the scope in writing

What the retainer covers, and what is billed separately — notices, assessments, appeals, incorporations. Surprise bills after a scrutiny notice are the single most common reason clients change firms.

6

Test responsiveness before you commit

Email a real question and see what comes back, and how fast. Compliance is a deadline business. A brilliant CA who replies in nine days is worse for you than a competent one who replies in nine hours.

7

Ask what they will do that isn't a filing

Filings are the floor, not the service. The value is in what they tell you before the deadline, not after it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a chartered accountant in Vadodara charge?
It depends on the work rather than the city. Fees scale with transaction volume, the number of registrations you hold, whether an audit is involved, and the state your books arrive in. A salaried return and a multi-location manufacturing retainer are not comparable engagements. We quote after looking at your records, and put the scope in writing so you know what is included and what is billed separately. Be cautious about any firm that quotes before seeing anything.
How do I check whether a CA is genuine?
Use the member and firm search on icai.org. You can verify a membership number directly — CA Chiranjit Patel's is 622379. Anyone may call themselves a tax consultant, but only an ICAI member holding a Certificate of Practice can sign audit reports and certificates as a chartered accountant.
Do I need a CA firm in Vadodara if my business is registered elsewhere?
Not necessarily. Income tax, GST and ROC compliance are handled online, and we work with clients across Gujarat and outside it. A local firm helps when you need physical stock verification, in-person representation, or simply want face-to-face access to the person handling your accounts.
I am an NRI with property or income in India. Can you handle FEMA and repatriation?
Yes — this is one of the practice's focus areas. That includes Form 15CA and 15CB certification, repatriation of sale proceeds from property, Section 197 Lower Deduction Certificates to avoid excess TDS on a sale, residential status determination, and return filing for Indian income. Most of it can be handled remotely, with a Power of Attorney where required.
When should a new business bring in a chartered accountant?
Before registration, ideally. The choice between a proprietorship, an LLP and a private limited company affects your tax rate, your ability to raise money, and how painful it is to exit. Reversing that decision later costs far more than getting it right at the start.
I have received a GST or income tax notice with a deadline next week. Can you help?
Yes. Notices, assessments and appeals are routine work here, and we take on representation for businesses that are not otherwise our clients. Bring the notice, the relevant returns and the underlying records, and you will get an honest read on the exposure.
What is the difference between a CA, an accountant and a tax consultant?
An accountant records transactions. A tax consultant may prepare and file returns. A chartered accountant is an ICAI member who can also audit, certify and represent you before the authorities, and who carries professional liability for that work.
